DIY make-up

Some parents have expressed concerns about the school make-up. It's done with Q-tips (fresh for each student) and we do ask every actor to bring his or her own mascara, to prevent spreading anything.

BUT if you wish to do your actor's make-up at home, here are the basics. We want a natural look for everyone--no blue eye shadow!

GIRLS

POWDER on the nose, chin, and forehead (a little foundation usually helps it stick better, but there's no need to go overboard).
BLUSH in a natural color on the apples of the cheeks
EYE MAKE-UP Shadow is not necessary, but if you want to do it, use neutral colors and a light hand, just enough to give some definition to the eyes. Eye liner is also good, but again, do not go overboard. MASCARA is important.
LIPSTICK in a natural pink color, not red. If your actor wants to bring the lipstick for touch-ups at intermission, please LABEL IT OR YOUR CHANCES OF SEEING IT AGAIN ARE SLIM.

BOYS

POWDER is good on the nose and forehead, just to reduce shine.
BLUSH very light
LIPSTICK very light, shade of pink natural to the lips
MASCARA is often a good idea

All girls with long hair should also have a good plan for pulling the hair back from their faces. Hair pins alone are generally not up to the task; bring a clip, or a comb, or a sturdy barrette that will hold her hair. If your daughter is playing a grown woman (Mrs. MacAfee, the Mayor's Wife, etc.) and she uses a hair elastic, please aim for a color as close as possible to her hair color, or failing that, basic black. Neon pink hair elastic looks wrong, and it is noticeable.
